Get the Most out of Your Training Program:
Post Training Follow-Up & Surveys

Are your employees getting the most out of your training programs? Many organizations invest a significant amount of time in developing and delivering training, but how often do we formally assess what the employees thought of, or took away from these programs?

Anonymous electronic or paper format surveys can help you determine if your training content has impact. Surveys should be direct and specific in order to expose potential areas of strength and weakness, for example where the content is not inline with the expectations of the group. Surveys are also an excellent way to evaluate the abilities of the facilitator delivering the training.

Key questions to ask training participants include:

  1. Did the training content meet your needs based on your individual tenure, experience, and knowledge?
    a. If yes, how?
    b. If no, what could have been improved?
  2. Did the training content challenge you beyond your current level of work and knowledge?
    a. If yes, how?
    b. If no, how could we have better challenged you?
  3. What aspect of the training course/content was most impactful to you?
  4. What aspect of the training course/content was least impactful to you?
  5. What two or three takeaways are you going to begin implementing when you return to your desk and your daily routine?
  6. Was the facilitator effective in their method and delivery of the training
    a. If yes, how?
    b. If no, why not?
  7. How would you rate the facilitator's:
    a. Vocal pace?
    b. Speaking volume?
    c. Ability to keep the group engaged?

Remember, once feedback has been obtained it is important to act on it and make necessary changes so that your organization's investment in training is time well spent.
