PROJECT TECHNOLOGIST / ENGINEER (STRUCTURES / MECHANICAL SYSTEMS)

This a Calgary based permanent position.

The Project Technologist / Engineer (Structures/Mechanical Systems) job will be responsible for providing project management and technical support to a variety of aeronautical engineering projects.

Responsibilities of the Project Technologist:


Work as part of a team conducting aircraft aeronautical certification and aeronautical product development activities.
Work independently in the planning and conducting of the organizations engineering projects, with specialization in aircraft level structural and mechanical system design changes including integration and testing.
Provide structures/mechanical systems technical and engineering support to aeronautical, military engineering, and automation / PLC personnel based in Canada.
Provide structures/mechanical systems design support.
Liaison with Transport Canada aircraft certification and inspection personnel as required.
Liaison with clients and prospective clients in the aeronautical areas.
Liaison with suppliers and prospective suppliers.
Assist project personnel in the preparation of proposals in response to client enquiries and government requests for proposals.
Prepare technical / engineering reports and test plans as required by projects and contracts.
Develop design concepts for various aircraft modifications; prepare engineering reports and drawings including structural and mechanical installation and fabrication drawings, and aircraft structural / mechanical design compliance reports.
Prepare complex designs and CAD drawings (layout, assembly, fabrication details) for aircraft structural and mechanical modifications.


Qualifications


The successful candidate will have 2-5 years relevant experience preferred.
Graduate of an accredited technical school as an aeromechanical, structural, or mechanical engineering technologist, graduate of an AME program, or graduate of an accredited university engineering program (aeronautics/aerospace, structures, or mechanical); candidates with relevant and demonstrated experience who are not graduates of an accredited program may also be considered.
Eligibility for registration with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or other equivalent provincial bodies, and eligibility for, or willingness to qualify for registration as a
Certified Engineering Technologist or Professional Engineer, as appropriate.
Candidates with two years or more aircraft structural / mechanical systems design and/or integration experience preferred.
Some knowledge of Transport Canada, FAA or European aircraft design standards and certification processes is an asset.
Experience in one or more of the following areas is essential:
Working knowledge in the preparation of aircraft structural and mechanical systems drawings.
Experience in working with fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft maintenance manuals and with equipment installation manuals.
Experience in the integration of mechanical systems on fixed or rotary wing aircraft; hands-on experience as an AME is an asset.
Familiarity with and working knowledge of aeronautical and military specifications, hardware and equipment including wiring, cable and connector specifications.
Experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) using AutoCAD®, Inventor or similar software.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office or Corel WordPerfect Office Suite software including word processor and spreadsheet applications.
Experience in the preparation of technical reports.
Experience in the preparation of ground and flight test plans.
