Analytical Chemist


Roevin Engineering and Technology (a division of The Adecco Group), on behalf of our client, Petro-Canada Lubricants, is currently hiring for an Analytical Chemist at Petro-Canada Lubricants in Mississauga. Reporting to the Analytical Team Supervisor, the Analytical Chemist provides analytical testing to support lubricants product development and research, resolve customers, manufacturing and refinery issues, and provides technical advice related to Lubricants business.


ANALYTICAL CHEMIST - RESPONSIBILITIES

- Applies a range of sophisticated analytical techniques to accurately and effectively support research, troubleshooting and technical support activities
- Develops, implements, and maintains analytical methods for use in lubricant product development, problem solving, and customer assistance
- Conducts specialty analytical testing for product failure, customer complaints and process related issue analyses and provides accurate and expert interpretation of analytical data to solve product and process issues
- Provides creativity and innovation in strategic aspects of analytical technology, in proposing technology developments which could provide the company a competitive edge
- Displays good bench techniques and initiatives in carrying out tasks
- Adheres to all the safety, quality and environmental procedures in the laboratory


ANALYTICAL CHEMIST - QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum of Masters of Science in Chemistry, with at least five years of experience in an analytical research laboratory
- Hands-on experience with all aspects of analytical instrumentation including gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is required
- Previous experience in Lubricants products analysis is preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge and capability in troubleshooting and analytical method development
- Excellent analytical skills in a wide range of analytical instrumentations and areas of method development
- Creativity and innovation with a technical learning ability
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Customer-focused with sound decision-making skills
- Ability to work well within a team and independently
- Good laboratory practices and techniques
- Position will be in a laboratory environment for approximately 70% of the time and 30% of the time will be in an office-based environment
