#ExperienceWorkDay offers young people a helping hand into work

  • Over 7,000 young people in 47 countries around the world joined the global initiative
  • #ExperienceWorkDay aims to bridge the gap between education and work

Zurich, April 25, 2018 – More than 7,000 young men and women in 47 countries gained valuable “real world” work experience and career advice through the Adecco Group’s second annual #ExperienceWorkDay. #ExperienceWorkDay is part of Adecco Way to Work®, the leading HR solutions partner’s global initiative to bridge the gap between education and the workplace.

Many young people find it difficult to enter the job market directly after education, with employers citing a need for specific skills and lack of experience mentioned as a key barrier. The transition between education and work is a very delicate process where young people often need assistance to make the search phase more efficient and less frustrating.

On April 24th, the Adecco Group deployed its HR experts in 24 cities in Canada to provide #ExperienceWorkDay participants with mentoring to help them prepare for a successful career, including professional guidance and training for interview techniques, CV composition and social media reputation. Nearly 50 young men and women attended workshops and/or shadowed Adecco Group professionals during their ordinary day at work. Through this experience, participants learned more about the career paths and sectors they were interested in, from marketing and HR management to IT, sales and finance. They also gained insights into what employers look for and how to successfully navigate a fast-moving labour market.

#ExperienceWorkDay is part of the global Adecco Way to Work® programme, launched by the Adecco Group in 2013 to support young men and women as they prepare to transition from education into work, and to build employable skills. Under the scheme, over 20,000 young people have been offered internships and apprenticeships since 2015.

“Young men and women in Canada can often find it hard to get on to the career ladder,” said Gilbert Boileau, President, Adecco Canada. “How do you prepare for that first interview? What is the best type of job for your skillset and personality? On #ExperienceWorkDay we answer these questions and many more, so that our participants have the tools to get their careers off to a flying start. While our colleagues shared their expertise for this mission, #ExperienceWorkDay also represents a great opportunity to stay close to the younger generation, share and welcome innovative ideas.”

“It has been absolutely amazing,” said Andrea Mestankova, an #ExperienceWorkDay attendee. “I got to meet the entire team that works in the office and talk to experienced people in the field. I also loved that we are getting so many insights from those people and we can ask questions and get professional answers.”
