The Accountant is responsible for analyzing and preparing financial documents and reports and overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions. This individual assists in the budgeting process and prepares internal financial statements comparing results to budget. The incumbent is required to have the flexibility to travel to satellite offices and work occasional evenings.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion of all payroll functions and government remittances. Prepare and process payroll in a timely manner.
  • Set up and update accounts and implement accounting procedures.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of bank account records, and reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Prepare various accounting summaries and reports. Compiles, maintains and produces statistics and reports.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests regarding financial information. Follow up to resolve errors and discrepancies in accordance with established procedures.
  • Oversee the recording of cash receipts and bank deposits.
  • Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy.
  • Review and reconcile the petty cash fund.
  • Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
  • Prepare of the annual budget for the organization.
  • Produces variance analysis from the budget and report significant issues to ED.
  • Generate quarterly and monthly financial (income and expense) statements.
  • Prepare third party billings.
  • Assist with budgeting for special projects, short term funding etc.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion of all accounts payable functions.
  • Proposal and grant writing and reporting responsibilities.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in accounting, mathematics, economics or business.
  • CPA designation will be preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of proven accounting experience
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Detail Oriented.
  • Excellent grant writing and proposal writing skills.
  • Strong accounting and bookkeeping skills.
