Adecco is currently hiring an Associate Engineer-Component Engineering for our Medical Manufacturing client in Ottawa West. This is a 1-year contract opportunity, Monday- Friday, offering full time hours. The salary will be determined based on education and level of experience.

In this position, the candidate will be responsible for creating qualification protocols, generating data and completing qualification reports.  Additionally, the candidate will partner with APOC’s supplier and internal quality teams to improve quality and reduce variation across the plastics and packaging portfolios, using advance polymer science knowledge and statistical/fact-based analytics.  The candidate will drive sustainable corrective actions and preventative actions to meet critical quality attributes (CQA) and identify/explore new CQAs and controls to further improve product quality.  They will also support the component engineering team in the creation and update of CAD models and drawings. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Updates Design Drawings (specifically Solidworks) and Material Specifications to reflect Critical to Quality Attributes, Key Process Indicators, and Critical Dimensional Features. Applies GD&T drawing standards where applicable.
  • Supports to promote the production of new tooling. Leads the Design Change Process, initiates Design Reviews and work alongside SME’s to develop the Characterization, Verification, and Validation strategy necessary support design change. 
  • Manages new tooling projects, addresses resources, strategy, impact, and escalations, to ensure on time execution of Project Milestones.
  • Metrology – Utilizes CMM’s, vision systems, and digital measurement tools to collected and analyze data necessary to provide objective evidence that components are capable to meet specification and design intent.
  • Acts as Supplier Liaison responsible to align both APOC and Supplier validation activities, timelines, and resources. 
  • Conceptualize complete solutions, create, or coordinate the design solutions for novel or complex problems; explore multiple alternatives.
  • Generates Characterization, Validation, and Verification reports documents in a timely manner and in accordance with business standards.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
  • Understand and comply with applicable EHS policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining effectiveness of Quality System.
  • Other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as may be required.
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent) required.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in Solidworks is mandatory.
  • Experience preparing formal design drawings and Solidworks templates is required.
  • Understanding of technical drawings, interpretation of specification and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is required.
  • Formal GD&T training is an asset.
  • Experience with the use of Metrology Tools (CMM, Vision Systems, Digital Measurement tools, etc.) is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing process control with two-shot injection molding is an asset
  • Structured Problem solving, Statistical testing, Design of Experiments, fact-based problem solving is required.
  • Some experience or exposure to a manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups, ability to work cross-functionally is required.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills.
  • Ability or aptitude to use various types of databases and other computer software.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability or aptitude to provide solutions and contingency plans through the comprehensive review of alternatives.
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge, understanding or skills and willingness to learn.
  • Experience working within an Automated medical device manufacturing facility is an asset.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience applying statistical software including Minitab, JMP, and PASS is an asset.
  • Experience with GMP and in working in an ISO and FDA regulated environment is an asset. 
  • Experience with LEAN Six Sigma manufacturing principles is an asset. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels in the organization.
