Duties and Responsibilities
As the Automation Controls Engineer, your role will encompass the following duties:
· Design control panels utilizing AutoCAD Electrical, generating associated shop drawings and wiring diagrams under the guidance of the Automation and Controls Manager.
· Program and configure PLC and HMI systems.
· Contribute insights to the project planning process, evaluating the time needed for project engineering and detailed design tasks.
· Take ownership of end-to-end testing, including programming downloads, start-up, commissioning, and servicing for assigned projects.
· Conduct testing and troubleshooting of HVAC systems controls and equipment during commissioning and Factory acceptance tests.
· Perform point-to-point commissioning of sensors and other system inputs.
· Offer support to Field Engineers during start-up and commissioning.
· Update AutoCAD control panel drawings and wiring diagrams under the supervision of the Automation & Controls Manager.
· Interpret control sequence logic from control philosophy documents.
· Verify the calibration of system sensors and transmitters.
· Complete commissioning documentation.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications:
· Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation & Automation or Electrical Engineering.
· 8-10 years of experience in HVAC/Controls or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Familiarity with various PLC and Industrial control systems.
· Experience in PLC programming and implementation (Siemens Step 7 and Logo Controller, Beijer).
· Autonomous with strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills in automation.
· Experience in creating panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical (or other similar software) is an asset.
· Bilingual proficiency with excellent English oral and written communication skills.
· Willingness and ability to travel up to 15%.
· Legal eligibility to work and reside in Canada.
