Adecco is currently hiring for a permanent, Automation Engineer (Software Engineering, Computer Science) to work directly for our client located in Nanticoke, ON. In this role, you will be reporting to the Finishing Automation Manager.

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement manufacturing process improvements through software changes in multiple high-level languages.
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and otherwise maintain critical process control system servers, relational databases, and web servers.
  • Learn and understand the steel hot rolling process and apply appropriate software control technologies to maximize operating efficiencies.
  • Analyze manufacturing process improvement requests and design software solutions based on those requirements.
  • Work with personnel from various disciplines in a manufacturing environment toward continual improvement in production capabilities.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills by successfully managing projects from start to finish, including significant interactions with internal customers.
  • Design, develop, test, verify and document software changes for the production environment.
  • Support the critical production systems in a timely fashion to maximize operating efficiencies with minimal interruption.
  • Use a mix of computer software technologies including C, Fortran, VB, SQL, C++.
  • Off-hours, on-call response to high priority issues is required.
  • Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar program,
  • Academic or vocational experience with programming in one of C, C#, C++ or Fortran.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming and the ability to learn new programming languages.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including experience with one of the following: MS Access, Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL.
  • Knowledge of communication network protocols including TCP/IP and UDP.
  • History configuring the MS Windows family of operating systems.
  • Preference given to those candidates with summer or coop employment in the field of automation.
  • Experience with OpenVMS, Linux, QNX operating systems would be considered an asset.
  • A positive attitude with an interest in expanding responsibilities.
  • A valid G or G2 license and reliable vehicle are required
  • Background in Process Control theory including sampling, filtering, signal processing, and modeling.
  • Strong verbal communication, written communication, and listening skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical/mathematical abilities.
  • An interest in career development.
  • G or G21 Driver’s License (required)
