Adecco is partnering with a global health care company in Barrie, Ontario to add an experienced buyer to their management team.  This is a new position based on growth of the organization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Set inventory management guidelines and monitor inventory levels

  • Purchase for inventory as required per reorder reports and requests from authorized staff members


  • Negotiate prices, terms, and volume discounts with all suppliers within authority level, including blanket orders
  • Seek out and qualify new suppliers who can reduce costs, improve services, or enhance product quality. A minimum of two alternate suppliers should be available
  • Monitor and review the performance of product suppliers to ensure goods meet quality, service, and pricing standards
  • Review vendor contracts, complete vendor reviews, monitor overdue back orders daily, co-ordinate communication to suppliers on issues such as rejected product, pricing errors, etc., and take action on material shortages
  • Analyze transportation costs and work toward elimination of vendor minimum charges
  • Reconcile inventory inaccuracies and perform root cause analysis, should they occur, and implement solutions
  • Manage period physical inventory counts and adjust computer records accordingly
  • Determine root cause of defects and stock outs and provide preventive measures against recurrence following non-conformance procedure
  • Expedite purchase orders when delays will negatively impact delivery
  • Issue purchase orders and arrange timely delivery from approved suppliers
  • Report any problems with Vendors due to late payment or any other contingency that will effect shipments to the Managers
  • Compare packing slips with Purchase Orders for codes and quantities 
  • Maintain a database of supplier information including vendor contact information, in house intelligence, and pricing information
  • Qualifications /Skills required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, Economics or equivalent
  • 5 years of previous medical supply purchasing experience required
  • Strong time management skills, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Proven negotiation techniques and understanding of manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience with supplier interaction and cost reduction programs and processes.
  • Detail orientated, self-motivated, and resourceful with strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter and proactive. Ability to successfully engage and interact with all levels of employees
  • Must possess the ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Must have a good knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
