Basic Purpose: Monitors the daytoday operations of meter data management systems within Field Device Operations (FDO) to ensure processes relating to the collection of data from smart meters and other field devices are executing in accordance with schedules and within Standard Operating Procedures. Troubleshoots data exceptions within established parameters using prescribed fixes. Responds to ad hoc requests for information from stakeholders. Major Responsibilities and Duties (to fulfill major purpose): 1. Monitors the daytoday operations of meter data management systems within FDO to ensure processes relating to meter events and the collection of data from smart meters and other field devices are executing in accordance with the schedules and Standard Operating Procedures and in compliance with service level agreements. 2. Identifies exceptions, manages incidents and conducts frontline troubleshooting by analyzing meter and device data generated by a variety of tracking tools and data base systems, and identifying potential sources of exceptions and/or failures using established troubleshooting routines, documented work flows and previously encountered patterns. 3. Initiates incident tickets for exceptions and failures, implements prescribed fixes if within frontline troubleshooting parameters and escalates to higherlevel MDM Analysts or designated specialists in accordance with established priorities by exception or failure type. Receives and responds to incoming tickets. 4. Applies established validation and estimation rules and routines to estimate interval and other meter data to ensure accurate data is presented in response to stakeholder requests for data. Compiles and distributes standard reports (on system performance, historical meter read data, statistics and activities) on a regular and ad hoc basis to internal managers and colleagues and to external stakeholders such as Customer Service Operations. 5. Provides input into new or revised Standard Operating Procedures to assist in identifying potential conflicts with existing operations routines. Identifies newly recurring patterns in meter data exceptions encountered through troubleshooting activities, and escalates to higherlevel Analysts for further analysis. 6. Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required: Welldeveloped oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Welldeveloped analytical ability. Welldeveloped teamwork skills. Good organizational skills. Ability to prepare data files in specified formats to fulfill ad hoc requests for meter data. Ability to utilize spread sheet applications such as Excel to an advanced level. Ability to utilize common desktop applications such as word processing, internet browser and email software. Knowledge of escalation protocols in order to raise trouble tickets with application management, data collection and field services groups. Ability to followup on issues to resolution. Knowledge of various functional groups within BC Hydro and their roles and information requirements as these pertain to meter data. Understanding of rates and billing in a CCS / SAP environment. Understanding of electric fundamentals, including volts, amps, kWh, demand, phases, and an understanding of power factors (for C&I customers). Understanding of meter data analytics including interval data. Knowledge of meter data management processes and systems. Understanding of customer service and contact protocols and procedures. Understanding of utility grid operations protocols and procedures. Ability to interpret data requests based on purpose and audience. Ability to extract data from a ticketing system such as BMC Remedy. Working Conditions: Works in a normal office environment. Experience, Training and Education (demonstrating requirements): Knowledge of data management systems, advanced spread sheets and common business software applications is typically acquired through completion of a Diploma in Business Administration, Computer Science, Math or relevant field; or through an equivalent combination of experience, training and education. Additionally requires two (2) years of demonstrated work experience in data management and analysis with exposure to metering systems, processes, routines and procedures or equivalent. Must be familiar with large information systems; file and data management; file transfer and processing protocols. Requires advanced skills in Excel. Strong skills in Access, Visio and query tools required. Candidate may be required to complete Electrical Fundamentals as well as inhouse training in the Itron meter data management system.
