Some of the responsibilities of the Disability Case Management Specialist job opening in Toronto, ON include but are not limited to:
Manages all administrative requirements related to disability benefits, from determining eligibility, informing prospect claimants on the benefits available, outlining and communicating the various program requirements and claiming processes, confirming medical forms and requirements, collaborating internally and externally as needed
Manages all facets of the various disability benefits payment processes ensuring these are in line with the policy parameters; approvals and extensions, handles systems manipulation, pending file reviews, closures, suspensions, rehabilitative plans including work re-integration and offsets
In conjunction with other teams, as required, develops, and streamlines the disability claims process including the initial triage process in order to optimize support to injured claimants, reviews incident reports, manages the triage process, provides direction, including medical/paramedical requirement and/or rehab plan recommendations, and collaborates with the third party case manager, as required to support decision-making and conducts regular on-going file reviews (medical compliance, policy compliance)
Communicates with claimants regularly, seeks updates, informs to reinforce program compliance
Monitors adherence to treatment plans, reviews work activity
Works closely with Manager and Director, as may be required, to resolve policy, process or procedural concerns/queries/appeals as they arise and address complex disability claim issues
Monitors disability forms, website content and reviews letter templates working with senior staff ensuring communication is clear and in line with policies and best practices
Determines annual eligibility for the Return of Premium benefit, calculates benefit amount, coordinates insurance account adjustments with Accounting and provides confirmation to the claimant Member
Determines Life Waiver of Premium eligibility, provides confirmation to provider with respect to reinsurance and as may be required, obtains updated medical information annually, communicates/re-confirms life waiver of premium benefits with the claimant and provides confirmation to both Accounting and Benefits (for yearend and renewal purposes)
Regularly attends industry events required to attain insight on industry trends and best practices
Verifies third party reporting to ensure proper billing allocation and file status
Responsible for year-end reporting to accounting on disability claims runoff
Verifies cheque run outputs for all programs
Supports medical and administrative requirements around establishing Life/AD&D claims
Coordinates LTD claims between employee/employer and provider and maintains regular contact with all parties with respect to open LTD claims
Requirements and qualifications for the Disability Case Management Specialist job opening in Toronto, ON include but are not limited to:
5+ years’ experience in disability case management; claims, return to work etc.
Education in a related field such as disability management, health sciences, kinesiology, health care etc
Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
Confident with various medical and related terminology
Ability to work in a sensitive and empathetic environment; patience
Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and ability to learn systems quickly
Highly organized and strong problem resolution skills
CDMP and/or CRTWC certification a strong asset
Courses towards CEBS certification also an asset
