Basic Purpose:

Develops, revises and prepares a variety of drawings and performs a variety of drafting related functions for engineering project.
Major Responsibilities and Duties (to fulfill major purpose):

1. Produces or revises, using computer assisted drafting applications or by hand, a variety of routine engineering and schematic drawings used for civil and structural, electrical, p&c, telecommunications or mechanical projects from information provided in the form of design sketches and written or verbal instructions.

2. Performs basic calculations to determine dimensions, elevations and slopes, checking data for obvious conflicts or design errors and determining the most appropriate layout of drawings and presentation of information.

3. Performs a variety of related functions such as totaling quantities of materials and components from drawings, checking availability of components and materials, writing material lists; visits work sites to gather information, observe site conditions and/or take measurements and perform basic survey tasks.

4. Ensures all drawings prepared in the section are correctly retrieved and stored in the drawing management system and performs basic updating on computerized drawing management system.

5. Maintains workstation in good operating condition; operates and may maintain related plotters, printers and scanners.

6. Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
· Good knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of computer assisted drafting applications.
· Basic knowledge of either civil & structural, electrical, p&c, telecommunications or mechanical drawing standards and practices.
· Good manual drafting techniques.
· Working knowledge of BC Hydro's drafting standards.
· Working knowledge of drawing layout to ensure the information required to construct the work is included in the drawing.
· Ability to read orthographic drawings and visualize objects.
· Working knowledge of Windows operating system and drawing file management process.
· Ability to keyboard accurately.
· Ability to use a digitizer.
· Possess good hand eye co-ordination.
· Basic knowledge of the construction and operation of BC Hydro generation, stations and transmission facilities.
· Possess a valid B C driver's license.
Working Conditions:

Usual conditions exist when in office which is majority of the time, occasional fieldwork in all weather and some walking over rough ground but does not exceed 10% of time. Degree of physical effort required as working on detailed drawings using computer assisted drafting equipment in excess of 70% of time.
Experience, Training and Education (demonstrating requirements):

High School graduation with a diploma in drafting from a government accredited technical institute or equivalent and related courses in the operation of BC Hydro's computerized drafting applications. The successful candidate will have approximately 24 months of experience in the drafting hierarchy.
