Compensation:  $24.00 to $28.00 per hour

Main duties must be in harmony with our client’s philosophy; integrate the Tlingit language and culture where possible, and provide school readiness

  • Creating a caring, stimulating and fun environment for children at the Tlingit Family Learning Centre.
  • Organize the space, equipment, and materials to create an environment which will encourage the children's exploration.
  • Oversee and observe the developmental level of children and encourage each child's efforts by providing meaningful commentary, by displaying work, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Education Manager.
  • Contribute to the Ongoing Operation of the Centre in the following ways:

  • Knowledge of child development practices and child behavior management.
  • Knowledge of the six components of the Head Start Program.
  • Experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility
  • Awareness of social issues affecting First Nations and non-First Nations children
  • Knowledge of recreational, social and life skills activities relevant to First Nations and small northern communities
  • Experience in problem solving and teamwork
  • Good knowledge of social structure, traditions, and cultural values an asset
  • Reporting accidents, injuries, and illnesses to the Education Manager as soon as possible but before the end of the shift.
  • Accommodating the parents’ instructions for daily care routines for their child when possible.
  • Providing parents with support and guidance regarding childcare concerns and information on community resources under the direction of the Manager.
  • EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a four-year Bachelor program in Early Childhood Education Development (Required)
  • Experience working with First Nations (preferred but not required)
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    •Standard First Aid or Child Safe Certification
    •Police and Vulnerable Sector Clearances(Required)
    •T.B. testing and proof of recent immunization, or signed refusal for personal reasons.
