Adecco is currently recruiting for a full-time Geologist, to work a long-term contract at a well-established energy company majoring in the production of synthetic crude from oil sands, in Fort McMurray, AB. In this role, you will be responsible for completing daily field geological activities in support of Mine Operations in Fort McMurray.

  • Shifts: 6 days on & 6 days off | 12 hours / day

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily mine tours of shovel pits
  • Daily ore grade calculations and compilation of ore reports
  • Estimating ore grade/fines and ore quality control at operating shovel faces
  • Delineating ore/waste boundaries in shovel pits based upon field observations and interpretation of geological data (cross-sections, maps and block model)
  • Attending daily meetings and communicating with Mine Planners, Extraction and Operations personnel
  • Advising on geological recommendations to maintain desired ore blend
  • Collecting samples of oil sand material from ore pits and stockpiles as requested
  • Investigating geological hazards or anomalies observed in the mine and report on findings
  • Providing support to investigations of bitumen recovery excursions
  •  Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology (preferred) or Geological Engineering is needed
  • Minimum 1-2year of experience in mining or the oil and gas industry is an asset
  • Prior oil sand site experience along with familiarity with regional/local Geology and McMurray Formation lithofacies is required.
  • Experience in operations support (production) geology roles on other oil sands sites is considered an asset
  • Prior exposure to MicroStation, Surpac and dispatch software (Wenco) is preferred, with competency using MS office programs, Excel in particular, being essential.
  • Must be physically fit to work outdoors and able to operate a 4x4 light vehicle in a mining environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both office and field personnel, along with strong attention to detail and decision-making skills, are a must
  • Must be legally eligible to work and reside in Canada
