Job responsibilities include:
Implements, manages and monitors all corporate environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs at the Belleville location, with additional support provided throughout the Organization as needed.
Works with the management teams and associates to instill a genuine culture of awareness and responsibility across the facilities.
Supports the preparation and implementation of site-specific procedures/requirements/programs that will ensure compliance with Corporate Programs as well as federal/state/local regulations.
Lead employee engagement efforts including serving as co-chair of the JHSC and providing oversight and coaching of safety committees and the company’s behavioral assessment process.
Provides support to the management team, associates and plant committees in order to ensure a safe work environment at each location.
Provides safety training which included new hire safety training as well as monthly training topics.
Provides monthly status reports regarding the initiatives of the plant EHS program.
Establishes and ensures that Site Committees are adhering to corporate standards, actively communicating to all plant personnel regarding EHS related issues and are developing the appropriate corrective action plans.
Provides relevant content and subject matter expertise to support:
Required EHS-related training at each of the locations
The development of thorough and complete incident investigations
The prevention of incidents through site visits that includes behavioral auditing, associate communication and statistical analysis
Prepares weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as required.
Works closely with the Human Resources Department, and, where appropriate, the Ministry of Labor, to review and monitor workers compensation claims costs and develop plans to minimize active claims.
Keeps the Corporate Directors of Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability always informed of issues within assigned area of responsibility; escalates situations as needed to reach desired resolutions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
To qualify, you should have:
At least 5 years of work experience managing safety, health, environmental and, sustainability functions in a manufacturing environment
Experience working in the food, pharmaceutical, CPG, or similar industry is highly preferred
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university with a concentration in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Safety, Risk Management or a related Technical Field
CRSP/QEP is preferred but not required.
Must have strong knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal pertaining to sustainability, safety, health and environmental requirements within a manufacturing environment as well as relevant consensus standards (e.g., CSA, ANSI, NFPA) and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act Professional Certification
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally across all levels of the organization
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and solve problems across a diverse network of locations and resources
Ability to recognize areas for continuous improvement and recommend and implement strategies for improvement.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary business information always
Ability to effectively manage time, including the ability to prioritize, work within assigned deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively to accomplish organizational objectives.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining quality & accuracy standards
Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook on an Intermediate to Advanced Level
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
