Our client located in Ottawa ON is currently hiring a Permanent Full Time Health and Safety Specialist to work Monday to Friday that can start immediately. To qualify for this Permanent role, you must have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a safety role within a construction environment, Safety knowledge in Fall Protection, Fire Protection and WHMIS, A valid driver’s license, a clean criminal background and comfortable with travel as you may be required to travel to Kingston on occasion (expenses paid). Bilingual would be great but is not mandatory to be considered for the position.

Our client was established in 1978 and has grown to become North America’s only trade contractor of complete building envelope solutions. Their service teams provide roofing service and maintenance with the capabilities of managing programs for a single facility as well as for those organizations with larger portfolios. The salary range is from $55k to $75k based on experience. Upon hire, you would be provided with a company vehicle, cellphone and laptop. After 3 months of hire you will be entitled to benefits, 2 weeks paid vacation and group rrsp.

Responsibilities of the Health and Safety Specialist include:
• Manage the safety requirements of operational construction sites and equipment
• Conduct safety evaluations of Flynn project sites using documentation and standardized processes
• Ensure that sub-contractors adhere to required safety standards in keeping with Flynn policy/legislation
• Identifying potential risks and safety hazards during a project through involvement throughout the job life cycle (estimate, pre-mobilization, construction and autopsy.)
• Performing accident and incident investigations as per the company’s health and safety programs.
• Maintain a conducive working relationship with all management, superintendents, project managers through education and giving practical on site application options
• Assisting with the communication and implementation of the company’s claims management and return to work programs.
• Be proactive in recommending changes to improve the safety programs
• Participate in the development and implementation of safety training programs
• Conducting new worker safety orientations and other required training programs as needed
• Report writing and maintaining of all required documentation
• Attending and facilitate monthly safety committee meetings as required


Skills/Qualifications of the Health and Safety Specialist include:
• Formal education and/or training in Environmental Health and Safety, CSO or equivalent experience
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a safety role within a construction environment
• Knowledge of OHSA
• Experience in metal architectural panels, curtain walls and roofing is an asset
• Bilingual (English and French) is considered an asset
• Valid driver’s license required
• Safety knowledge in Fall Protection, Fire Protection and WHMIS
• Knowledge and practical experience in accident investigation
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Computer literate in Windows applications; Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Presentation skills are an asset
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Team attitude with a willingness to learn
• Construction Experiences is an asset
• Experience working for a General Contractor
