Adecco is currently hiring for a part-time Lab Assistant for the Provincial Health Service Authority located in Chilliwack, BC. In this role, you will be responsible for receiving, handling, and preparing laboratory specimens for COVID-19 testing.   • Pay Rate: $24.04/hour 
  • Location: Hospitals in Chilliwack, BC
  • Shifts: 7:30 AM-3:30 PM | 3:00 PM-11:00 PM | 11:00 PM-7:00 AM
  • Required Availability: 2 to 4 shifts per week (open 7 days a week)

  • Job responsibilities include:

  • Preparing specimens for testing by performing centrifugation, aliquoting and loading samples onto specimen racks
  • Verifying COVID related specimen type; sort and assign laboratory numbers to specimens
  • Receiving incoming specimens and requisitions and check for accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Contacting physicians or labs for missing information and make necessary corrections --
  • Processing test requisitions by entering patient data into computer systems
  • Issuing new patient identification number where required; obtain or clarify missing information
  • Entering test requests into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Storing and retrieving COVID-related specimens under appropriate conditions
  • Documenting and shipping samples to other laboratories and discarding according to established procedures
  • Preparing, recording, and send specimens and appropriate request forms to outside/referral laboratories and hospitals
  • Preparing test runs by pulling specimens for worksheet, matching specimens and requisitions and retrieving frozen samples for testing
  • Delivering samples and related documentation to and from in-house laboratory sections
  • Receiving, directing, and responding to telephone/fax requests
  • Filing and organizing records, requisitions, and statistical information
  • Identifying and communicating operational issues and computer/equipment-related problems to the supervisor
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment, such as refrigerators, freezers, centrifuges, and testing equipment by cleaning and recording temperature
  • Performing maintenance procedures and/or recognizing malfunctions in equipment and reporting these to the lead or designated person
  • Maintaining daily cleaning and disinfection of work areas and equipment by preparing fresh disinfectant solutions and wiping bench tops and equipment as well as performing waste management duties
  • Keeping workstations well stocked with supplies and monitoring supplies
  • Advising the designated person when supplies need replenishing.
  • Performing related duties such as ordering, receiving, recording, and storing new shipments of supplies.
  • To qualify, you should:

  • High School/Grade 12 graduation
  • One (1) year of recent and related experience or an equivalent combination of education or training
  • Must either have a background in the medical field or a professional background
  • University students in the medical field are welcome
  • Must have at least 35 wpm typing speed on a keyboard
  • Ability to communicate effectively - both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to physically carry out the duties of the position; organize & prioritize work
  • Ability to deal with others effectively and operate related equipment with care
