Overview

The Celestica Newmarket Mechanical Engineering Lab Operator position is a 3-5 month temporary opportunity to support a specific Lab project.  The ideal candidate should have experience working in a Lab, manufacturing and/or mechanical test environment. We are looking for a team player who is able to learn quickly, is self-motivated, has excellent analytical and communication abilities and is comfortable performing repetitive tasks in a Lab environment.   The main requirement for this job is for the employee to work overtime on a daily basis.

Incumbents have some latitude in determining the best methods and procedures to follow to complete assignments. Tasks are broad and complex in nature where considerable independent judgment and discretion are required. A strong initiative is required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions will have an impact on the department's goals and customer satisfaction.

Position involves working with accelerometers and their associated data collection systems.

Good problem identification and troubleshooting skills required. Ability to read and interpret product specifications, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Ability to use hand and power tools required for test assembly. Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal customers. Duties of the position require periodic physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions, sitting in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials. Typical Experience: Two to four years’ relevant experience.

Desired Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing/lab environment
  • Hands-on experience with machine operations
  • Good hand-eye coordination, dexterous, detail-oriented
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to evaluate and examine defects using microscopes
  • Must be proficient with MS-office and have general computer skills
  • Time management and ability to prioritize tasks according to deadlines

Representative Activities:

  • Operation of equipment for mechanical shock testing
  • Documentation of results
  • Analysis of results using microscope and test equipment

Physical Demands:

  • Duties of the position are performed in a noisy lab environment with frequent exposure to machine operations and chemicals (mostly adhesives)
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on equipment and/or computer monitor
  • Duties require wearing safety glasses, lab coat, and ESD safety shoes at all times.

Experience: visual inspection, manual assembly, machine and/or tester operation preferred

Education: college or university in a mechanical related field
