QA/QC Specialist

The QA/QC Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that our food products meet the highest quality standards and comply with regulatory requirements. This role involves overseeing quality control processes, conducting inspections, and implementing quality assurance programs to maintain product integrity and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Assurance (QA):

    • Develop and implement QA policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with regulatory standards (e.g., CFIA, HACCP, FSMA).

    • Conduct internal audits and inspections to ensure compliance with QA protocols.

    • Perform root cause analysis for quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

    • Monitor and analyze production processes for adherence to quality standards.

    • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including SOPs, QA manuals, and quality records.

  • Quality Control (QC):

    • Conduct routine QC inspections and tests on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.

    • Utilize laboratory equipment and testing methods to verify product specifications and quality attributes.

    • Ensure all QC tests are documented accurately and reported promptly.

    • Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.

    • Maintain and calibrate QC equipment to ensure accurate test results.

  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Stay updated on food safety regulations and standards, and ensure company compliance.

    • Assist in the preparation for regulatory inspections and third-party audits.

    • Implement and maintain HACCP plans and other food safety programs.

    • Report and document any non-compliance issues and coordinate necessary corrective actions.

  • Training and Development:

    • Train production and quality staff on QA/QC procedures and food safety standards.

    • Develop training materials and conduct regular training sessions.

    • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the organization.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Prepare and maintain quality reports, metrics, and performance data.

    • Document all quality-related incidents, non-conformities, and corrective actions.

    • Provide regular updates to senior management on quality performance and areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a QA/QC role within the food production industry.

    • Experience with food safety standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., HACCP, CFIA, GFSI).

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and quality control principles.

    • Proficient in laboratory testing methods and quality assurance techniques.

    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Certifications:

    • HACCP certification or equivalent is preferred.

    • Additional certifications in food safety and quality (e.g., SQF, BRC) are advantageous.
