Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead Reservoir Engineering of development projects including infield opportunities and/or new sustaining pads, increasing resource capture and performance
Work with a multidisciplinary team to identify and evaluate opportunities
Manage the infield opportunity portfolio and recommend future development programs
Evaluate medium term development opportunities and their impact to the Strategic Development Plan.
Perform production forecasting by using various techniques such as data driven models, analogues and simulation methods to support various corporate processes such as budget and reserves. Improve and enhance current methods for efficiency and accuracy
Support and/or lead project management efforts through the pre-FID project life cycle. This includes leading multi-disciplinary multi-function team(s), presenting to management, and presenting and engaging with CI D&P production and capital coordinators
Identify and evaluate innovation initiatives to improve value and reduce break-even of development projects
Develop SAGD reservoir operating strategy for new and legacy wells, including technical recommendations and support of economic evaluations of workovers and improvement projects
Monitor and analyze production data, performance, and other reservoir data to maximize value, optimize performance while ensuring compliance. Get opportunity to work with a wide range of well types and production stages with 180 wells comprising well start-ups, new SAGD well pairs, infills, and late life legacy wells
Handle project updates, technical presentations to team and senior leaders. Present and defend technical reservoir engineering work products to technical experts in Calgary and CI headquarters
Provide reservoir engineering support for AER applications and approvals process. Lead reservoir technical discussions with key contacts at the AER to support project approval and promote positive relationships which will impact all future projects
Work with Oil Sands Production and Development Teams, Planning/Finance, Drilling and Completions, Health, Safety & Environment, and Facilities
Gather data/information, develop data models, provide analysis and interpret results, highligh anomalies, follow-up to clarify and validate information, and prepare and provide results and findings
Constantly seek to improve methodologies and evaluation techniques, as well as ideas that would enhance the key metrics of the SAGD project
Define reservoir pressure and temperature expectations to support drilling operations, work with execution teams to develop risk mitigation approaches to subsurface risks while minimizing economic impact. Evaluate development opportunities with respect to subsurface HSE risks such as: caprock containment, Q-channel regulatory requirements, and drilling hazards.
Apply planning and forecasting tools developed by the team, verifying quality of inputs & outputs and working with developers to adapt and improve the toolset and underlying database
Requirements and Qualifications:
Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in preferably Engineering or appropriate equivalent
Professional designation with APEGA
10+ years of experience in thermal reservoir engineering
Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams
Broad knowledge of geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and production engineering
Working knowledge and understanding of the upstream Oilsands business model
Detailed knowledge and / or experience of the following:
Reservoir forecasting experience in oil and gas (SAGD preferred)
Oil Sands reserves evaluation
SAGD Development Projects
Economic Evaluation
Probabilistic & Uncertainty Analysis
Thermal Simulation
Budget and strategic planning, Project Management experience would be considered an asset
Operational, SAGD or other thermal process experience is desirable
Deep knowledge in the following Software: Excel, Spotfire, R, CMG
Must be legally eligible to work and reside in Canada
