Adecco is currently hiring for a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer (LV and MV Power Systems) to work a long-term contract at a leading global mining group in Labrador City, NL. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing sustainable electrical power distribution projects as an integral part of the engineering team, while utilizing extensive knowledge and experience to lead the design of capital projects in an industrial and mining environment.

  • Shifts: 3 weeks on, 1 week off site FIFO rotation, anywhere within Canada
  • Job type: Full-time 1-year Contract to start

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design of industrial electrical power systems
  • Perform electrical power system studies, protection and control systems design and settings
  • Determine design deliverables and develop engineering scope of work document
  • Handle the application, design, configuration, and commissioning of electrical equipment
  • Lead capital projects development including feasibility studies, project scope definitions, capital cost estimates, preliminary and detailed engineering designs
  • Lead troubleshooting of electrical power distribution systems and equipment
  • Improve and upgrade existing assets and applies complex problem-solving techniques
  • Contribute to successful project scoping and development by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and complex coordination requirements
  • Holds a key understanding of the project lifecycle, facility lifecycle and the engineering process
  • Coordinate engineering activities for the defined area of responsibility for the full project life cycle and perform site investigations and field reviews
  • Perform calculations and studies in load flow, short circuits, motor starting, protection relay settings, electrical coordination, grounding, equipment sizing, and arc flash ratings
  • Review and develop control diagrams, wiring diagrams
  • Prepare technical electrical specifications and in-house electrical standards
  •  Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Electrical, Power Systems background (Low Voltage (600 Volts) and Medium Voltage (above 1000 Volts) is required
  • P.Eng. designation is a must
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant design experience is required
  • Experience working at an engineering firm is preferred
  • Experience working on industrial and/or utility projects is a must
  • Experience in grounding grid design and lightning protection
  • Experience in design applications of Variable Speed Drives, Motor Control Centers, industrial motors, power factor correction, applications to industrial electrical equipment, direct online starters, soft starters
  • Substations design and SCADA experience
  • Experience configuring and setting microprocessor relays is preferable
  • Deep understanding of relay communications networks and protocols such as IEC 61850
  • Knowledge of generator sizing calculations and controls, load sharing and shedding principles
  • In-depth knowledge of MCC, and LV & MV Switchgear specifications and design
  • Deep knowledge of overhead and underground distribution lines  
  • Strong understanding of power analysis software; preferably ETAP
  • Possess strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of electrical principles, low and medium voltage distribution design, and protection & relaying design. 600 Volts, 4160 Volts, 12kV, 46kV distribution systems
  • Must be legally eligible to work and reside in Canada
