The ideal candidate for the position of Senior Purchaser will come from a manufacturing setting where they have hands on experience, direct and indirect experiences and possess a good technical knowledge of production and manufacturing processes It will also be someone who is comfortable working in a Nuclear Energy Facility. The ideal candidate will have experience with Oracle ERP Requisition to pay and planning and will be able to travel from time to time to the head office and supplier sites.

Senior Purchaser Role Summary:

The Senior Purchaser works with stakeholders to support their requirements (total cost, quality, service) and uses procurement best practices to drive for optimal solutions.  This is accomplished through building relationships (internal and external), quickly resolving supplier quality and performance issues, negotiating agreements, understanding the market dynamics for assigned categories, and routinely analyzing data and processes to implement continuous improvements to help reduce supply chain risks.

Senior Purchaser Key Responsibilities:

  • MPS / MRP Planning, Materials Management and Purchasing - requisition to pay process
  • Manage inventory to maintain appropriate stocking levels to accommodate both short and long lead-time materials to meet forecast, operational demands and customer sales orders
  • Negotiation and create contracts in cooperation with internal business partners, to produce favorable terms and conditions
  • Timely resolution of supplier related service and quality issues
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance of supplier related data in an Oracle ERP system
  • Develop and manage RFx activities in coordination with business partners to drive measurable savings, quality and Environment, Health & Safety results
  • Identify and implement business process standards as well as optimize of existing business systems

Senior Purchaser Key Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline
  • 10 years of experience in MPS / MRP Planning, Materials Management, Sourcing, Supply Chain Management
  • Must have a general working knowledge of engineering, particularly mechanical & electrical and the ability to read and understand technical drawings to assess requirements and sourcing strategies
  • Must have a good technical knowledge of production and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with direct and indirect sourcing and category management
  • Completed or working towards a Supply Chain Canada SCMP and/or a APICS CSCP designation
  • Strong planning skills within a MPS / MRP systems utilizing, BOM’s, WIP, routings, and work orders to perform various materials management functions and associated Requisition to Pay process
  • Good working knowledge of and experience in developing sourcing strategies, drafting contracts, and negotiations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple key activities
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Experience working with engineering, quality, logistics and Environment, Health & Safety groups
  • Computer software proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook) 
  • Comfortable working in a highly regulated process-oriented work environment
  • Drive to continuously learn, challenge the status quo and collaboratively implement change
