Adecco is currently hiring for a SMT Operator for a client in Ottawa West (Kanata). This is a full time opportunity Monday to Friday with potential overtime on the weekends. Compensation to be determined based on experience.


SMT Operator Responsibilities:

  • Using automated or computer controlled equipment to perform tasks
  • Setup and operates machines daily
  • Operator selects computer profiles as prescribed in Production Control standard. Modifies existing profiles, within defined parameters, to ensure quality output meets prescribed MIL/Engineering standards
  • Monitors chemical or pneumatic or hydraulic levels or pressures used in the manufacturing process. Tops up, adjust pressures or levels, or replaces chemicals, as required
  • Cleans assemblies using automated technology, including preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Responsible for ongoing cleaning and maintenance of machines
  • This typically involves cleaning, inspecting, rotating, changing chemical solutions, lubricating machine parts as outlined in the “Preventative Maintenance Log”. Duties are performed daily, weekly or monthly and recorded by the operator on the Preventative Maintenance Log per Process Control Standard
  • Inspects output and identifies defects. Troubleshoots defects and identifies whether the source of the defect is material, machinery or process
  • Maintains SPC records and activities
  • Other related duties including mechanical/electrical assembly tasks, as assigned
  • May have exposure to chemical substances, extreme heat and lifting equipment (15 lbs)
  • Protective equipment must be worn
  • Flexibility to work weekend shift and sometimes requires overtime

SMT Operator Requirements:

  • Aptitude in equipment maintenance is required
  • Ability to read, write, communicate effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • 2 to 3 years machine operator experience
  • Familiarity with SMT component types and orientation marks
  • Good understanding of automated SMT machine operation
  • Experience in a high reliability electronic environment
  • Exposure to all aspect of SMT manufacture
  • Ability to work with assembly drawings and parts list
  • Troubleshooting skills and asset
  • Specific experience on material preparation and touchup techniques would be an asset

The successful candidate(s) must fulfill requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian security clearance.
