This position will be responsible for managing all mold tooling from onboarding new molds through completing repairs and improvements to molds in support of ongoing production. This position will assist addressing customer feedback issues with molded components, implementing process improvements on existing processes, and implementing cost improvement ideas. Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing the onboarding of new tooling projects
Assist on quote tooling, approve mold designs, source molds through approved suppliers (domestically and internationally), and track mold builds.
Provide on-site support for tool builds and mold tryouts
Work with Engineering to lead design reviews and complete tooling refinement during development/validation
Supervise, train, and lead the tool room staff to produce quality molded products in a safe and productive manner.
Provide support for tooling in production including spares management
Work with Process Engineers to resolve issues and maintain tool condition for the life of tooling
Track progress on tooling repairs and modifications. Work with Engineering, Production, customers, and vendors to expedite in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Work within the constraints of budget, schedule and scope to manage risk and ensure adherence to established processes and methodologies through:
Interaction with customers, suppliers, and internal resources
Demonstration of advanced knowledge in tooling design
Mentoring other engineers
Defining and managing scope, time and cost for complex projects or programs
Identifying risks, taking responsibility for mitigation actions, and managing mitigation plan
Requirements and Qualifications:
Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
10+ years’ experience in the tooling design, manufacturing and injection molding
Completed educational program training in mold making or engineering (Mechanical, Materials Science, Plastics, etc.)
Prior experience in management or leadership
Experience in tooling design, fabrication, development, testing, and validation
Understand design for manufacturability and have a track record of successfully implementing new tooling into production
Proficient in solid 3-D modeling using SolidWorks
Experience and understanding of de-coupled injection molding and structured process development
Familiarity with different ISO requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. un-assisted
High level of attention to detail and meticulous record-keeping capability
Excellent prioritization and organizational skills in order to manage multiple responsibilities with little to no supervision
High level of initiative and flexibility in adapting to changing needs of a dynamic work environment
Proficiency with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
